Sydney Weather

Sydney is the most populated city in the Australian continent and it is located in the southeast of Australia. The city of Sydney experiences temperate climate. That means that the winters are mild and the summers are warm and humid. There is no real rainy season in Sydney weather as it, in fact, rains all year round. Because of the proximity of Sydney to the ocean the temperatures stay under control with the inland sections experiencing the highest every year. It is rare for the temperatures ever to drop under 5 Celsius (41 Fahrenheit) especially on the coast. July is usually the coldest month of the year while January is the hottest. Even with its location Sydney does not see any effects from cyclones.

How Hot Can It Get?

If you are visiting from the northern hemisphere you will notice that the summer in Sydney happens at the same time that the winter takes place back home. The hottest month of the year is January and the average high temperature is 25.9 Celsius (78.9 Fahrenheit). That is not so bad until you take into consideration that heat waves can happen. There is also humidity to be factored in and that can result in some really hot days. The hottest temperature ever recorded in Sydney weather was 45.3 Celsius (113.5 Fahrenheit). Recently the temperatures have been climbing up even more than usual. If you are visiting during the Sydney summer check Sydney Weather.Net for any updates on the temperatures in the city.

Rain

Sydney weather sees a lot of rain throughout the year. In fact the average number of days with rain is 143.7. There is no real rainy season but September and October are the months with the least amount of rain; September being the driest. The month of September sees an average of 68.9 millimeters (2.713 inches) of precipitation each year. The wettest month of the year is June. The month of June sees an average of 130.5 millimeters (5.138 inches) of rain each year. Some people call the months of April, May and June the rainy season but the amounts of rain can change each year so a rainy season is not defined. We at www.sydneyweather.net recommend that you bring an umbrella when you visit.

The Winter

The winter months of Sydney weather include June, July and August. The temperatures can be chilly but never below freezing. In fact, since records have been kept the city of Sydney has never been below 0 Celsius (32 Fahrenheit). What does happen during the winter is that the city is hit by wind which can make the temperatures feel a bit colder. But you will never see snow when you travel to Sydney. June sees 130.5 millimeters of rain making it the wettest month and the record low temperature in Sydney is 2.1 Celsius (35.8 Fahrenheit). On average you will see about 5.5 hours of sunshine each day during the month of June. That number goes up to 6.4 by the month of July.

Water Temperatures

The water temperature in the area close to Sydney is influenced by the eastern Australian current. Warm water is brought down from the Coral Sea. During the summer this current is stronger and that means that the water temperatures are comfortable. To put a number to the water temperatures that you will see around Sydney, you will find water around 22 Celsius (71.6 Fahrenheit) from December to April. After April the air temperatures go down but the water temperatures remain the same. Since visiting the ocean is one of those things that you have to do when you visit Sydney, we at Sydney Weather.Net recommend that you try it in the summer months as it does not get much better than that.

Best Time To Visit

Because the city of Sydney is very popular with tourists it is a good idea to know what the best time to visit is. It all depends on what you want to do. If you are visiting Sydney for the ocean, then visiting in the summer makes the most sense. There are many other celebrations in the city which make Sydney come to life; for example the St. Patrick's Day parade and Easter. The autumn weather is a bit cooler than the summer and the average temperatures range between 22 Celsius (72 Fahrenheit) during the day and 15 Celsius (59 Fahrenheit) at night.
